Mercy Among The Children

When I first set offed this book, I found the mood to be very grey and dreary. The author did an excellent job picture the setting for the novel in New Brunswick, allowing the reader to alter to the storys dark tone. The first stem I was able to identify was the individuals kindred and promise to nightclub. This definitely connects to Sydney Henderson, when he as a boy makes a promise to attend church every day and neer speak up for himself, after he thinks he has killed his friend. This in any case applies to Sydneys girlfriend, Elly, as she never speaks up for herself. This often frustrates me, as I wonder whether the characters will carry this attribute through come out the story. It seems that these characters are also limited in what they can do in their lives, like they are trapped in their society and cannot escape. This makes me appreciate my life now, since I dont look at to endure harsh tribulations. Sydney Henderson can also relate to the theme of the outsider. The reason for this is because many people in his town do not talk or affiliate any problem with him, due to his promise to god; they find him as an unknown quantity to their community.

I find Sydney to be a complete enemy to his son, Lyle Henderson, who is telling the story. Lyle has a more controlling and open sense of psycheality, whereas Sydney is too afraid of connection with others. I had a some questions in my mind while I was reading, such as: Why does Sydney carry such a close relationship with his beat before his death? I ask this because his father was very abusive towards him. Secondly, what does Elly see in Sydney that makes her want to start a relationship with him? I find it odd that out of all the people in the town, she chooses the most estranged person in the community. If you want to get a full essay, localise it on our website: Orderessay
