This meter is mostly written from the perspective of an unknown observer of the touch that the poem is based around. However, the poem consists of three different speakers: the narrator, the alfilaria/ term and the lovers. Each speaker represents a different military position towards duration, the lovers rime demonstrates romantic idealism and they pronounce their feelings that time is conquerable and that their love can non be hindered by time. The clock however, interrupt the lovers song to remind them of the acerb truth that time can spoil any human relationship and that time is a ruling nip. Finally, the narrator speaks of love as being outside of both of these things. The narrator states that time is a constant flow that brings change and opportunity and to claim comptroller over love is an illusion.
The lovers song declares the highly romanticised ideal that love conquers all. According to the lover it is a force unaffected by rules of the world such as time or physical laws. They believe that their love is immune to time and the lover implies that their love is special and is more pure or significant than anyone has ever experienced before. They believe their relationship is so unique that no one can understand it precisely them.
This portrays the naivety of the two lovers who are ignorant to everything else going on around them. Just as the lovers song reaches the peak of its impossible claims, all the alfileria in the city began to whir and chime The clocks disprove the lovers heartfelt declarations, it describes love as something that cheats you out of life and allows you to be distracted from the passage of time until you wonder what youve missed. The clocks seem to suggest that love, as described by the lovers, does not exist.
