In part three of The Wars by Timothy Findley I found that this entire section of the invention was every last(predicate) madness, however in my opinion the maddest of all is how the soldiers who were with Robert in the crater were not armed with the equipment necessary to be send go forth into the battle field. As Robert and his men were making their bearing through the crater a mist of bale high swagger made its way over the edge, this mist existence an attack by the Germans. Chlorine gas. The all way to proceed the attack is by wearing a gas suppress so when Robert sees this gas he tells all his men to put their masks on; however he is intercommunicate that they were not equipped with masks, or guns for that matter. Later on in part three when Rodwell shoots himself it is stated that there is no set in the war for men who take a shit a look upon for the sanctity of life, and this becomes extremely evident in this scene with Robert and his soldiers. It is dead mad that these young soldiers were sent into the battle field without good equipment, almost as though the army is sending them out to die, having no respect or sanctity for the lives of the men that be fighting for their county.
In my personal opinion I summon that the relationships the soldiers give birth between one another and the care they have for each other is the sanest behaviour shown through good and sad times. Take for example again the gas attack in the crater. When Robert is informed that the men do not have gas masks he gives his up for the most vulnerable man who bust both his legs risking his life to save another. After this heroic gesticulate he continues on to create his own gas masks consisting of weewee and cloth saving those whom he cares about from death, the fact that he puts his life at risk and takes charge for his men is only one example of the love and care the men have towards one another.
